Behind the photo: Staging the Hodinkee Mag Vol 10 mega flatlay

I don’t know about you, but I find assembling flatlays pretty therapeutic. Even better when it’s a mega flatlay! It’s no wonder that I accidentally started this Hodinkee mag mega flatlay series (is it considered a series if I’m only 3 deep?) where I compose a shot around the latest volume of the magazine and completely disregard their cover art by placing my own preferred watch over it. How I ended up using the BB36 on both volumes 8 and 9 is beyond me though.

Back to the point though: these are so fun for me to stage and compose. So, I figured it might be fun for you to see the process! There’s definitely more art than science at play here, with visual balance being the key variable I’m optimizing for.
